Porto Airport is named after the Portuguese statesman Francisco Corneiro. The grand opening took place in 1945. The airport was restored several times, and today it is a modern three-level building, which provides passengers with a wide range of services. I’ll tell you how to get to the city in an article.

General Airport Information

Official website https://www.aeroportoporto.pt

Francisco Corneiro Airport has one passenger terminal. About 6 million passengers are served here annually.

Every day from 5:00 to 22:00 on the second floor there is a duty-free zone. It sells Portuguese gastronomy, perfumes, jewelry. The selection of goods is wide. Prices are 15-20% higher than in the city.

Porto Airport has a tax-free return point. The amount of purchases for a VAT refund should be from 61.35 euros. You need to go to counter number 101 and tell the staff that you have goods for declaration. You fill out the form with which you approach the customs officer. He checks purchases and documents. Then you go to the operator’s desktop for VAT refunds.

By the way, there are a lot of people who want to get tax-free, be prepared that you will have to spend time on the procedure (come in advance!).

If necessary, you can use the left-luggage office (on the 3rd floor). Price for luggage up to 10 kg – € 2.41 per day. From 10 about 30 kg – € 3.66. For luggage weighing more than 30 kg, a fixed storage cost of € 7.27 per day is provided.

From the airport to Porto by bus

Bus connections with the city are provided by two passenger transportation companies:

  • STCP (http://www.stcp.pt)
  • Resende (http://resendeturismo.com)

A stop in the city center is opposite the exit from the arrivals area. 3 daily bus routes run from here:

  1. Flight No. 601 Airport-Cordoaria. Schedule: from 5:30 to 18:30. Waiting time is 25 minutes.
  2. Route No. 602 Airport – via Padrao de Moreira Cordoba. The line is open from 05:30 to 00:30. Expectations between flights – 25 minutes.
  3. Bus number 604. Airport- Hospital S. Juan. The first flight leaves the line at 6:00, the last – at 21:00. The waiting time is increased to 30 minutes.
  4. At night, a regular bus number 3M operates. Route – Av. Allies – Airport. He walks every hour. Schedule: 00:30 to 05:30.

As with the metro, you will need an Andante card (€ 0.6) + one bus ride of € 2. The Andante24 card is valid for 24 hours on all modes of transport, incl. by bus. You can also buy a ticket from the driver, price 2 €.

From the airport to the center of Porto by taxi / transfer

A taxi rank is located opposite the exit from the airport. It will take about 15 minutes to get there. We calculate the cost of the trip: landing € 3.25 + € 0.47 for each kilometer during the day and 0.56 euros at night. Surcharge for luggage about 2 euros. If you get stuck in traffic (and they are not uncommon on this route), there will be a surcharge. Since payment is on the counter, be prepared that a taxi driver can go around a traffic jam (real or imagined), which will increase the cost of your trip.

To avoid such troubles, I prefer to book a transfer: the price is fixed, and does not depend on how much time you spend in the city traffic jam, meeting at the airport with a sign, you do not need to pay extra for luggage. I used the services of kiwitaxi.com twice , I liked the service ( read the review )

The price of a transfer on the route Francisco Corneyro Airport – Porto Center – from € 25.

Shuttle to the center of Porto from the airport

Another option (it is good for those traveling alone) is a group shuttle to a hotel in the city center. This service is provided by intui.travel . The cost of a seat in a minibus is about 10 euros. I used it in Paris , there were only 3 of us in the car (my mother and I and another girl), so it happens that the transfer is almost individual.

Car rental at Porto Airport

There are car rental companies at the airport. Among them:

  • Europcar;
  • Avis
  • Guerin;

other.

Opening hours: from 7:00 to 24:00.

You can rent directly from a distributor, but often it turns out more expensive than through agents such as rentalcars.com or autoeurope.com . I rented with both of them, the prices are approximately the same, a small difference in the damage excess, as well as the conditions for canceling the order. We rented a car in Valencia (in Hertz usd autoeurope service).

Car rental starts from 18 euros per day. Consider also the cost of gasoline. A liter of fuel in Porto costs € 1.5.

To apply for the service, you need an international driver’s license, a passport, credit card information for a deposit.

Roads in Portugal are paid, I wrote all the details about paying for the roads here .
