Paris-Charles de Gaulle: terminals and services

Official site https://www.parisaeroport.fr

The airport is named after the former French president. The grand opening took place in March 1974. The hub provides air traffic to 300 cities of the world. Paris-Charles de Gaulle is divided into 3 large terminals. The second of them, which, incidentally, receives passenger flights from Russia, is divided into 7 more terminals. These are all separate buildings. Shuttles run between them, there is also an underground metro line connecting the terminals.

See the terminal layout at https://www.parisaeroport.fr/en/passengers/access/paris-charles-de-gaulle/terminals-map

The airport infrastructure is excellently developed, to say the least. Here you can literally live with all amenities. I’ll tell you about the key services for tourists in more detail.

Tax free at Charles de Gaulle Airport is issued without any problems if the purchase amount exceeds € 175, 01. Find one of the five tax return offices:

  • in terminal 1, lower level, hall 6, immediately to the right;
  • terminal 2A, departure zone, exit No. 5;
  • in 2C you need to exit 4;
  • terminal 2E, exit 8;
  • terminal No. 3, departure zone, customs control.

Cash back VAT is possible up to € 1000. If the amount is greater, the balance is transferred to the card. The procedure takes about 40 minutes, there is always a queue, but it moves quickly.

My experience of tax-free refund at Terminal 1 of Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Arrived at the airport early ( got on the advanced ordered transfer kiwitaxi), the first time it was not easy to find a customs point: from the level where flights are registered (zone 2, floor 3), you need to go down one of the elevators to floor 2. Follow the signs to the customs. Nearby stands a young man, an employee of the airport and tells where to go, what to show and where to get the money. Documents and passport need to be scanned independently in a special kiosk. If suddenly the receipt is not readable, then you can go to the customs officers, their windows are nearby. Next to the customs point is one of the return points, but you can only get a dollar return in it. Therefore, we returned to the 3rd floor and at Travelex received a refund in euros. We spent half an hour on the procedure for returning tax-free in the morning (around 6:30 in the morning).

Left-luggage offices are located in the second terminal (level 4) opposite the Sheraton Hotel. Schedule: from 6:00 to 21:30. The price of the service is from € 3 per day.

Duty free zones are scattered across all terminals. Shops usually open at 5:45 and work until 21:30. Here you can buy everything that we used to buy in duty free. You can also buy macaroons. The cost of one piece is about 1.80 €, which is basically cheaper than in Laduree.

Taxi and private transfer

Taxi ranks are opposite all terminals. Getting to Paris from Charles de Gaulle Airport by taxi will cost you around € 40. An alternative is the qiwi taxi service (from € 50). You will be met at the airport, no matter what time you arrive, they will help with your suitcases and will quickly deliver you to a hotel or other destination. I ordered a kiwi taxi on the way back to the airport . Why I chose a transfer, not a taxi, I told in an article by reference.
