Florence Amerigo Vespucci Airport is located about 10 km from the city center in the Peretola area. In this article I will tell you how to get to the train station of Florence and the city center.

Florence Peretola Airport

To get to Florence, many tourists fly to Pisa airport (about 100 km from the center of Florence) and wonder if there is an airport in Florence. To the delight of many, I answer that yes, there is an airport in Florence that accepts both domestic and international flights.

Florence Airport website: http://www.aeroporto.firenze.it/en/

Florence Airport consists of only one terminal, which serves all passengers. See the airport map below:

The airport provides all the necessary services for a comfortable stay of passengers: Duty Free, shops, cafes, ATMs, information desks, VIP lounge.

Tax free at Florence airport: there is a Global Blue point. The point is located in the registration area, it is open from 6:00 to 19:00 from Monday to Sunday.

Transfer and taxi to Florence from the airport.

The fastest and always the most comfortable way to get to the city center is by taxi or transfer. Taxis can be taken at the exit of the airport. In this case, be extremely careful , ideally arrange in advance with the taxi driver. In Italy, it is not uncommon for taxi drivers to demand a huge amount (complicated tariffs + detours + extra payment for each piece of luggage), and Italians do not know English (not to speak Russian), so it will be problematic to solve the problem.

You can avoid such problems by ordering a transfer in advance through the website kiwitaxi.com . There you will immediately enter the address of the destination and you will know the exact amount to be paid (through the site you can pay the full cost of the order, then nothing will have to be paid at the place). Through a kiwitaxi, I booked a transfer in Valencia , I was satisfied. You can book a transfer in Florence here . Travel time 15-20 minutes.

Buses to / from Florence Airport.

A budget option is how to get from Florence airport to the city center and to the train station, as well as from the center of Florence to the airport – bus.

Busitalia’s Volainbus buses from the airport go to the center to a stop at via Santa Caterina da Siena, 17, also stop at Santa Maria Novella Train Station. The bus stop at the airport is located on the right side of the exit from the terminal. The fare (September 2018) is 6 €, the journey takes about 20 minutes. Bus schedule: 5: 30-00: 30 with an interval of 30-60 minutes. You can buy a ticket at the box office in the airport building and at the driver.

Rent a car at the Florence airport

If your plans include a trip to Tuscany or the whole of Italy, you can rent a car directly at the Florence airport. However, keep in mind that in Florence itself you are unlikely to need a car and will be more likely an obstacle, since it is better to see the sights of the “heart” of Florence on foot, and it is better not to drive to the narrow central streets of the city, and it is problematic to park in the center.

You can rent a car in Florence directly at a rental company or through an intermediary (broker). In the latter case, it almost always turns out cheaper and you can clearly choose the most profitable option. Often when booking you can get additional “buns” such as “second driver for free.” I rent a car through the services rentalcars.com ( review ) and autoeurope.com ( review ), to rent a driver’s license is needed, a credit card  is needed as well.
